Intrusions

Speculative Soundwalk, Creator, 2022

Intrusions is a participatory audio installation, prompting audiences to embody processes of emplacement through the metaphor of slow-cooling magma crystalising into igneous rock.

Exhibited at Carclew as part of SALA Group Exhibition "Embodiment", curated by Asha Southcombe

Asking audiences to pause and listen to speculative soundscape compositions as they explore sites around the Carclew grounds, the piece encourages them to interrogate their relationship to the places they occupy.

How do you engage with a space itself? How does a place become familiar, become home? Over time, or through action? By sonifying repeated encounters with space as an outsider, Intrusions invites audiences to individually and collectively participate in placemaking through sound.
